Hermione/Draco
McGonnagall dismissed classes and Hermione picked up her stuff heading out of class feeling bummed. She’d failed her last quiz in Transfiguration and she knew that that meant more study groups with Hermione. She headed down the hall lost in thoughts about her quiz. /Why me?/ She thought. /I studied...sorta./ Someone called her name and she turned around. It was Ginny.
“Hermione! Hermione! What’d you get on your exam?” Ginny asked. Hermione sighed.
“I failed it.” She said walking ahead. Hermione sighed.
“Hermione what’s wrong with you these days? You’re failing test and not studying and-”
“Oh just shut it Ginny! all right? I’m not in the mood.” She said angrily.
“Oh, Hermione...” Tears filled up her eyes and Hermione turned and ran off. She was heading to the Girl’s Bathroom. Running down the hall she heard someone call her name. It was Professor Flitwick. He looked angry. She hurried over and noticed the Professor had a student by the ear. The student looked up at her. It was Draco Malfoy. She grinned. It was quite amusing to see the spoiled arrogant brat hanging by his ear.
“Yes, Professor?” she asked. Containing a laugh.
“Miss Granger. I found this boy skipping my class.” Hermione raised her eyebrows. Draco was a bad kid, but when it came to teachers he was a complete suck up. “Would you be kind enough to escort him to his next class for me?” Hermione sighed.
“I guess so Professor. But I can’t be late to my next class.” She said making an excuse. She really didn’t want to be alone in the halls with him. He had taunted her for the longest time. And she didn’t feel up to his jabs that day. The past week for her had sucked badly and her exam hadn’t made it any better.
“I shall give you a note to pass unto your next teacher Miss Granger.”
“Okay.” She said inwardly grimacing. Flitwick let go of Draco’s ear to go back into his classroom to write Hermione a note. Draco leaned against the door and rubbed his ear while glaring at Hermione. Hermione studied the floor with extreme attention. Flitwick came back out and handed Hermione the note.
“Thank you Miss Granger. Now you better hurry of to class.” Flitwick said pushing Draco out of his classroom door. “That means you too Mister.” Draco growled angrily. And stormed off down the hall. Hermione rushed to his side.
“I’m not a child Granger. So hurry off to class and get off my tail.” Draco drawled. Usually Hermione would just ignore him and keep walking but today was not the day to mess with her.
“Then stop acting like a two year old, Ferret.” She shot back. Draco stopped and looked at her. Hermione looked back and stood nervously shifting her feet. “What?” He didn’t say anything.
“You okay Granger?” He asked not looking away from her face. Hermione rolled her eyes.
“You know if you take a picture it’ll last longer?” She said storming off. He followed her wondering what the heck was wrong with her.
“Granger?!” Draco said pulling her back by her wrist.
“Ow! Malfoy! Let go of me!” She said as she was flung around face to face with him. She opened her mouth to say something to him but was drowned into his gray eyes.
“Granger, what is wrong with you today, you are acting odd.” Hermione snapped back and pulled her wrist away from him. And pulled down the sleeve protectively.
“What is wrong with YOU, Malfoy!?” Draco stared at her in shock. Hermione had a hold of her wrist tightly. Draco took a step forward and grabbed her arm. She pushed him away but not before he could see her wrist.
“Granger! What the bloody Hell do you think you’re doing?” Hermione opened her mouth and then shut it again. Hermione then took a deep breath. She pulled her sleeve down and smiled weakly.
“Calm down Malfoy. I’m going to go to my next class and forget this ever happened ok? Bye.” Hermione sighed and turned around to go to her next class. Draco stood in the middle of the hall and watched the youngest Granger girl turn the hall.
“What the fuck is wrong with her?!” Draco asked himself. He stared ahead. A yellow piece of parchment was lying on the floor. He bent down and Hermione rushed down the steps to the Dark Arts class. Calmly she pushed the door open and stepped inside.
“So. Miss Granger. Mind telling me what you are doing in my classroom?” Drawled a voice. Hermione winced.
“Um, I was coming and...I.” Hermione dug in her pocket for the pass. Snape stood and tapped his foot angrily.
“Come on Miss Granger. I really don’t have time for this.” He said.
“I have a pass, Professor! I do! I just need...” Hermione said searching for the pass.
“Detention Miss Granger.” Snape snapped. “Now in your seat!” Hermione looked up.
“But I have-”
“SIT!” Snape said angrily. Hermione slumped into her seat and as her eyes began to fill up with tears the door opened behind her. She didn’t bother to look.
“Draco what are you doing here?” Snape asked. Hermione looked back and saw that Draco had something in his hand.
“I think this belongs to you.” Draco said handing her the note.
“Uh yeah...it is.” She said taking it in her hand. She turned to the front of the room. “Professor Snape. My pass.” She said handing him the pass from Flitwick. Snape read it over and told her to sit back down.
“Draco. Since you have Dark Arts next just stay here. I shall explain to your teacher. Take a seat.” Snape said before turning back to the board. Draco sat down next to a few other Slytherins as Hermione watched.
/Is he feeling okay? What’s the catch?/ She thought. Draco wasn’t a nice guy. At all. He didn’t help someone unless something was in it for him. Snape lectured the class on werewolves for the next twenty minutes. Finally Hermione caught Draco’s eyes. She pulled a piece of parchment and scribbled a note on it.
What’s the catch?
She whispered a spell.
“Netario.” The note disappeared from her desk onto Draco’s desk while Snape’s back was to the board. Draco read it and Hermione watched his face turn from one of boredom to amusement. He picked up the Slytherin boy’s pen and scribbled down something and it reappeared back onto Hermione’s desk in a puff of purple. Hermione opened it up.
What catch. Granger?
Hermione sighed. And scribbled down a response.
You’re being too nice, what’s the catch?
Then she spelled it back. Eagerly she waited for an answer.
There’s no catch Granger. Can’t I be nice without being under suspicion for once?
She rolled her eyes and sighed. Scribbling down a response.
No. No you can’t. You’re too evil to be nice to me.
Draco read the note his silver-blonde hair falling into his eyes. Silently Hermione thought. /And too cute./ He stared down at the paper. The pen sat idle in his hand. Hermione waited for the note to return anxiously. It appeared on her desk and she opened it. Hermione rolled her eyes.
I’m not evil.
She scribbled back a response and instead of spelling to him she tossed it at his head, hitting him square on the temple.
Oh, I’m sorry. I must be mistaken. Aren’t you the same Muggle-hating, Pureblood ass of a Malfoy I used to know?
He read the note picked up the pen and wrote something. Then scribbled it out, and crumpled it up. He caught her eyes and shrugged. He stared out the window for the last ten minutes. While Hermione felt bad. /He looks so troubled. Damn my mouth. I can never say anything right./ She sighed. /I have a free period next. Good./ She loved her free periods. Especially when it was nice out. Like it was today, The sun was shining and the lake looked beautiful. She felt like dipping her feet in the lake, it was so hot in the school.
Hermione lay under the blossoms trees by the lake. She loved being out alone. She’d grabbed her books on the way out. Hermione headed towards the Quiditch field, her jacket hanging off her shoulder. Hermione smiled as the wind blew through her hair.
“Hey, Granger! Wait up!” Hermione didn’t need to turn around to know who it was calling her name. But she turned around any ways. Yep, sure enough there was the spoiled Pureblood running up to her, broomstick in hand.
“What do you want Malfoy?”
“Practicing. Granger have you noticed you seem to be everywhere I go?” Hermione shrugged. Malfoy pulled on her hair.
“Oh yes, Malfoy, I’m your stalker girl. Happy now?” She sighed, looking over at him, with a silly grin on his face. “Yep. Extremely happy.” Hermione paused and put a hand to his forehead.
“Are you okay? You have a fever Malfoy you should go lie down.” Malfoy smirked and opened his mouth.
“Yeah. I’m extremely sick.” Hermione then noticed a necklace he wore. It was a gorgeous jade green with a snake encarved in it.
“Malfoy what’s that?” Hermione asked. Draco opened his mouth, then he closed it and turned around abruptly. He then stormed off. “Malfoy?”
“Shut up Granger.” he said angrily. Hermione stared. She then sighed. She knew his being nice wouldn’t last long. But still, she wiped her eyes off before heading to the Quiditch field. Meanwhile, Malfoy grimaced in pain holding onto his wrist. /Damn my mouth./ The Quiditch field was luckily empty. Hermione sat in the stands and started reading. The wind blowing her hair back as Hermione left the field and wandered Hogwart’s grounds. Wind blew her tears away.
“I’m not crying over Malfoy.” She told herself. “I won’t.”
“Hermione!” Hermione searched the empty stands. And saw Ron sitting alone, waving to her with a big smile on his face. Hermione sighed, smiled back and placed her book under her arm and ran to catch up with him.
“How was your day?” Ron asked.
“Confusing.” She sighed as Ron played around with his broomstick and she thought about a certain blonde haired ferret.
“Confusing, how?” he asked.
“I ran into Malfoy.”
“What’d he do?” he asked suspiciously.
“Nothing.” she said calmly. “he was acting civil.”
“Really? That’s a bit odd.” Ron said as Hermione rested her head back against the stands.
“Yeah I know.”
Hermione lay in bed. Fast asleep. It was the middle of July and so many things had been going on Hermione was exhausted. So much that even as her window opened and a shadowy figure of a young man crept in she did not awaken. He watched her sleep peacefully and let out a sigh. Securing that the door was shut he leaned over Hermione, his blonde hair falling into his eyes. Slowly and softly he planted a kiss on her forehead. She stirred and rolled over still sleeping like a baby.
“I’m so sorry Hermione. I never meant to hurt you.” Draco Malfoy pulled his hood down and slipped the necklace off of his neck. He then slipped it onto Hermione’s hand. “Goodbye Granger.” He said again placing a kiss on her. Put instead of her forehead he laid it on her lips. Then, before his Princess could awaken he slipped out the window.
The blaring sunshine awoke Hermione slowly. She opened her eyes and sat up. Then she got up. She yawned and heard a clink. Suprised, Hermione looked down onto the floor and saw a pendant and chain. Picking it up carefully she thought for a split second she recognized it. She shrugged and slipped it on, figuring she had unpacked it at home the night before. Hermione went downstairs and sat at the kitchen table where her Mom had made pancakes.
“Sleep well?” Her Mom asked.
“Sort of. I woke up once and it was really weird.”
“Like a ghost?” Her Father asked, looking over his paper.
“Sort of. I don’t know. Just being silly.” She said laughing it off. Her Mom walked over and sat down a plate of pancakes. She wiped her hands off on her apron and stared at Herione’s necklace.
“Where’d you get that, hun?” she asked. Hermione reached a hand up and tapped the necklace.
“What this? I don’t know. I just found it. It seems so familiar to me.” She said in a daze. Hermione ate the rest of her breakfast and headed back upstairs. Hermione laid the necklace on her bedside table and stared at it. Then she pulled out her wand. She had to be carefull. She didn’t know for sure where it came from. She murmered a spell and realized the spell on the necklace had been a protection spell. An exetremely powerful one at that. Hermione picked it back up and placed it in the palm of her hand.. Whoever had given it to her wanted her safe. And that was good enough for her. She paced the room and studied the pendant. Rubbing her finger over the jade she felt something. Hermione held the pendant up to the light and blinked. She recognized the snake. It was the necklace
Draco had had around his neck. A small shiver rolled down her back as her mind raced. Hermione closed her hand around the necklace and closed her eyes.
